When we spotted a couple of hot rods in the parking lot of our hotel in Ely, Nevada we knew a a car show was at hand. The next day we discovered that the White Pine Rodders Car Club was hosting its 25th annual show. Although this show was not large – about 60 cars – it was well organized and offered way more than shows many times its size. During the day hot rods gathered in Veterans Park in the center of town where drinks and a bar-b-que lunch was available and a DJ kept the music playing; later in the day the cars paraded through town and in the evening posed for photos with a steam train. There were a variety of nice cars at the show – including this 1965 GTO below.

This Ford is a reproduction of the police car from the Andy Griffith Show complete with donuts and coffee on the dash and fishing poles in the back seat.
Kyson made the rounds in his rat rod wagon propelled by “papa” power.
Folks spent the day talking ‘hot rods’ and around 4:00 p.m. the cars lines up and paraded through town. However, the perfect end to a great day was when the cars met up again at the Northern Nevada Railway, also in Ely, for a charter ride on a train pulled by No. 93 – a 1909 steam locomotive. Before No. 93 was ready for boarding, it paused for photos.
It’s just possible that sometime in the past this Model A waited at a crossing for No. 93 to pass by.

The cars were back in Veterans Park on Saturday to continue the show which kicked off with a pancake breakfast. The club also held raffles and hot wheels races. The proceeds of this show go to fund scholarships of White Pine High School seniors.
Running across this show was a happy accident and was a great way to spend the day. Take a look at the club’s website, White Pine Rodders.org and watch for the 2019 show. It’s well worth making the trip.
