MONDAY MORNING WRAP-UP FEBRUARY 6, 2023

The 2023 Grand National Roadster Show is over but, it’s clear that as far as car folks are concerned, so is the pandemic.  The number and quality of the cars on display were equal to, or exceeded, the pre-pandemic shows as did the number of spectators.

The 2023 Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS) couldn’t have been better.

The Suede Palace, as always, contained an eclectic collection of customs:

Being shown in Building 8 were a lot of very nice custom boats.

It’s not only cars that go fast.

Some exceptional cars could also be found in Building 8.

The license plate on this car pretty much says it all.

Unique and outstanding vehicles could be  found everywhere in the Fairplex.

And there were motorcycles.

Not all the cars on display were full-size.  There were several pedal cars which demonstrated an attention to detail that matched the full-size cars.

The long and low were also being exhibited.

This year the drive-in was held on both Friday and Saturday.  The cars participating in the drive-in are parked outdoors in every nook and cranny of the Fairplex.

While photos provide a snap shot of the GNRS, nothing can take the place of just being there.  Watch for the dates for the 2024 GNRS.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2023

This photo gives a good idea of the number and quality of the vehicles found in the many buildings on the Fairplex.

The theme of the Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS) 2023 was “Keep on Truckin”.

The theme building was chock full of beautiful and unique trucks of all kinds.

Cyrus, a future trucker, was on hand taking in all the trucks.

This truck offered a very unique grille.

In addition to the fine vehicles in the buildings, there were many, many more outside – some with very unique custom touches like the exhaust on this Merc.

Al & Mary Slonaker founded the Grand National Roadster Show in 1950 in Oakland, California.   In 1974 the Al Slonaker Memorial Award, which is open to all types of vehicles, was created to recognize the best non-roadster vehicle at the show.  Next to the AMBR award, the Slonaker is the most sought-after award in the world of Hot Rodding.

The 2022 Slonaker Award winner was Pat Guantt and his 1932 Ford Coupe.
