The 14th Annual Dr. George Charity Car Show was held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, CA. Jordan Quintal’s Grass Hopper, 1930 Model A, took home the trophy for Best of Show.
Proceeds from the Dr. George Show benefit the Desert Cancer Foundation. This year the Desert Cancer Foundation was selling raffle tickets and giving out rubberized wrist bands that read “Hope Comes in All Colors”. SO DO HOT RODS!
As always, the Southern California desert offered blue sky, warm weather, and bright sun – the Palm Springs Cruisin’ Association did the rest. This group of folks knows how to host a car show. Over the years, the Dr. George Show has grown and has now reached the capacity of the Tennis Garden in Indian Wells. The area has room for 900 cars. With 870 cars pre-registered there was little room for those not pre-registered. [Hint for next year – pre-register early.] Reserved parking has been offered the last couple of years and is a great addition. On Friday, you can pick up your registration info, choose your parking spot, drive a stake in the ground with your name on it and go home. You can leave your show car there overnight, or not. Show time on Saturday morning is a snap. The gates opened at 7:30 and it wasn’t long before the grass was covered with show cars.
Several future hot rodders were at the show.

Watch out – here comes Makeyla.
Date Festival Queen Scheherazade and her court, Princess Jasmine and Princess Dunyazade, were at the show to remind folks that the Festival was going on at the Riverside County Fairgrounds and would continue until February 21. In real life the Queen is Tyler Kelleher, Princess Jasmine is Selena Andrews and Princess Dunyazade is Vanessa Gaytán.
It was a good day to look at cars – and there were a lot of nice cars.
Not everything was a hot rod, but everything was was fun to look at.
The awards ceremony was held about 3:00 p.m. when 43 trophies were given out. No doubt each judge had a tough time narrowing the selection down to one.
Only a few of the winners are shown above. All of the photos of the award winners can be seen on our SmugMug site.
The Palm Springs Cruisin’ Assoc. (PSCA) does a tremendous job putting on this car show to benefit the Desert Cancer Foundation. The Foundation provides help to those who cannot afford medical care. Last year PSCA donated $65,000 to the Foundation and since it’s inception has donated $608,000. Since many health care providers in the Coachella Valley have agreed to provide their services at a discounted rate for the Foundation, that $608,000 has provided nearly $4,000,000 in services. Let’s hope the Dr. George Show continues for a good long time.
