MONDAY – UPDATE –
After a two year absence, the Dr. George Charity Car Show, came roaring back in 2023 with more than 1,100 cars in attendance. As in prior years, the event took place in the Tennis Garden in Indian Wells.
The gates opened to allow car parking at 5:30 a.m. About 60% of the car owners had arrived on Friday to select a parking spot, but the remaining 40% had to find a spot on Saturday morning. The gates opened to the public at 9:00 a.m. followed by the presentation of the Flag and National Anthem. And then it was time to look at all the cars. There was a big variety of vehicles from new to older Corvettes, Mustangs and Camaros – plus there were customs, hot rods, rat rods, classics, trucks and just about everything else. With the warm desert sun shinning it was a perfect day for a car show.
This 1969 Z28 Camaro started drag racing in 1973 running the quarter mile in the 10-second range in Super Stock C. After some engine and suspension modifications it brought home a Wally. In 2018 it returned to its prior life as a street car.
There were so many nice cars.
From the sought-after ’63 split-window Vette –
to the iconic ’55-’57 T-birds
and a Daytona coupe
and a fire truck
and VW Bugs
Almost everything could be found at the Dr. George Show.
One of the highlights of the day was the pedal car races for kids 3-5 years old. There were 11 racers competing to become number one.
Once the cars were at the line, the green flag manned by Jim McGee came down and they were off.
It was a hotly contested race, and Daniel in the No. 13 car was the first to cross the finish line.

When the racing was finished, the cars were auctioned off, with Von Hot Rod serving as auctioneer. The minimum bid was $275 with all proceeds going to the Desert Cancer Foundation.
There were a number of future car enthusiasts in attendance. First is Sebastian, followed by Oliver in his ’32 Coupe, and Landon in a Woodie.
Below are the award winners.

The Dr. George Show is sponsored by the Palm Springs Cruisin’ Association. Over the past 20 years the show has grown from 400 cars to over 1,100 cars and has donated over $1.1 million to the Desert Cancer Foundation. If you missed this year, mark your calendar for February 10, 2024.
SATURDAY – UPDATE
The 2023 Dr. George Charity Car Show was as good as it gets. A few photos from Saturday are posted below, but many more will be posted by Monday evening.
After the presentation of the Flag and the National Anthem, two war birds from the Palm Springs Air Museum did a fly-over. The T6 and C-47 made one pass, circled around and came over again. Amazing to see these planes still in the air.
Rick Youngquist is the owner of this remarkable 1969 Chevelle which took home the trophy for Best in Show.
Daniel was another winner on Saturday when he drove his No. 13 pedal to a first place win. Below is Daniel well ahead of the pack as they race to the finish.
The winning No. 13 Car team is shown below.
There will be more photos and show info posted Monday evening.
FRIDAY – FEBRUARY 10, 2023 – Check-in day.
The 20th Annual Dr. George Charity Car Show, lovingly known as the Dr. George Show, will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023.
However, Friday the 10th was registration and move-in day at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden where the show takes place.
Folks could pick up their show registration, select their parking spot and drive a “reserved” stake into the ground. Vendors were on hand getting set up. Comparing the early check-in to past years leaves no doubt – THE DR. GEORGE SHOW IS BACK AND WILL BE BETTER THAN EVER.
A few hundred cars arrived at the tennis garden on Friday and many owners opted to leave their car over night. Some very nice cars were available for viewing today but there will be so many many more tomorrow.
