The above memorial was in the back of a 1955 Nomad brought to the show by Rick Aleman. In the front window is a Certificate of Deployment for pfc David Aleman, 4th Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.
To put on the Veterans Memorial Car Show (the “Vets Show”) the Volunteers for Veterans Foundation partners with many, many groups, companies and individuals. The show is held at the VA Medical Center in Loma Linda which offers good parking and spectacular grounds. The result is always one fine car show. This year was no exception.
The show started at 8:00 a.m. and ended at 3:30 p.m. and with around 1,200 cars and a whole bunch of vendors it was easy to keep busy throughout the day. As usual there were several military vehicles in attendance along with hot rods, customs, rat rods, classics and muscle cars. The Vets Show attracts some of Southern California’s nicest cars.
In past years the Vets Show raffled off a car – last year the give-away car was a Nova. However, the group no longer gives away car. This year the give-aways were a custom golf cart and Maytag front load washer and gas dryer. Raffle tickets were sold throughout the day and two lucky winners took home the prizes.
Proceeds from the Vets Show support veterans and active military personnel through the Vet’s hospital and by providing assistance to vets in transition to civilian life. The monies generated by this show do a lot of good. The theme of this show has always been “If you love your freedom, thank a Vet”. This couldn’t be more true. We all know that freedom isn’t free. And to Vets from all branches of the service and from all times, we say THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
The Vets Show is always the first Sunday in October. In 2013 the date is October 6 — save the date.
